Hello :)

I am Francesca, a third-year PhD student in the InClow group in Groningen. My research sits at the intersection of language acquisition and language modeling. I am interested in how infants learn and process language, and how child-directed input and useful inductive biases can help models learn language from limited data, a question I also explore using formal and artificial languages as controlled testbeds. My interests have increasingly moved towards cognitively plausible and multilingual modeling and the creation of resources for low-resource languages. More broadly, I aim to contribute to the development of polyglot and inclusive language technologies that reflect the richness of real-world linguistic heterogeneity.

Outside of work, I love dancing, foraging, and exploring the city and its surroundings by bike. I also enjoy reading novels and transfeminist intersectional essays, making small crochet projects for friends and myself, and capturing everyday life on film with my Pentax K1000 :)) I also enjoy creative writing, and at the start of 2026 I opened a Substack where I publish whatever I write outside of work, have a look if you’d like!
